We also installed three internal drawers to store socks, T-shirts and other
clothing items in. Each inner drawer is fitted with a 25mm plastic spacer so
that when you open the inner drawer it won't knock against the door. Believe
it or not but when I first started building diy cupboards I saw these spacers
in a clients cupboard in his house. I didn't think much of it and still said to
myself "who's this idiot that built these bic's". I later realized I was the idiot.
I had to learn the hard way but you don't have to. I eventually realized that
the best way to go is flat pack pre-drilled diy bedroom cupboards.
Everything is already done for you. When I say everything I mean you get
all the time consuming things like lining up hinges and drawers, making
shelf templates so your shelves aren't skew, sliding your backboard in so
the cupboard doesn't go out of square. Instead of trying to impress your
wife with your own cupboard system that that you're putting to the test for the
first time why don't you impress her with a diy cupboard system that has been
perfected. No headaches of skew doors and drawers or pieces of wood that
were cut wrong. You get all the best parts of the deal and a kiss from your
very impressed wife.
The diy cupboards here are great to install and very simple as well. Back in
the days cabinet makers use to build a base on which to level the cupboards.
The problem with the chipboard base was that if it got wet it would start
swelling like Weat Bix. Not to mention you have to be a cabinet maker to
construct a base for the cupboard. It's not a job just any Joe Soap could do.
And if you measured the lenght of the cupboard wrong you would have to go
through all the efford of taking the base appart, cutting it to size, assembling
it and putting it in place again. Thank goodness they solved that problem.
Most if not all diy kitchen and bedroom cupboards are supplied with Pvc
100 - 150mm adjustable legs that fit onto the bottom of a cupboard. Each
legs can carry over 50kg making it very strong. It's also very easy to level a
cupboard. All you need to do is adjust the pvc leg up or down. Each pvc leg
is supplied with clips that are fixed to the kickplate or plinth as some of you
know so that the kickplate can just clip onto the leg.
So if you're thinking of installing your own diy bedroom or kitchen cupboards
remember that it's allot easier than it use to be. Not to mention the money
you save by doing it yourself.
